ÉPOK'TOUR :
Tours in the Time of Philip Augustus
What if you could travel back in time to the early 13th century? With Épok’Tour, discover Tours as you’ve never seen it before. Guided by Mahaut, a young woman dressed in historical battle attire, immerse yourself in the heart of a city undergoing profound change, where religious power, trade, and the great crusades shape the daily lives of its inhabitants.
As you wander through the narrow streets of the old Martinopole, listen to the story of a city torn between the bishop’s authority and the influence of Saint-Martin Abbey. You’ll understand why Tours was then a must-visit destination for pilgrims, merchants, and travelers from across the kingdom.
Through the stories of Mahaut, the daughter of a militiaman who left for the Crusades, discover the role of urban militias, the city’s economic boom, the veneration of Saint Martin’s relics, and the major challenges of Philip Augustus’s reign. This tour also offers an opportunity to challenge common misconceptions about the Middle Ages, particularly regarding the role of women in medieval society.
Combining historical anecdotes, cultural heritage, and a costumed immersion, Épok’Tour offers a lively and original experience the perfect way to discover Tours in a whole new light.
